Cream Velvet Dining chairs

Turned these bedroom chairs in to Cream Velvet dining chairs. Harker Design commissioned these chairs for one of their clients. They took a set of existing bedroom chairs of the clients and turned them into host/hostess chairs for the dining table. Since the client is located out of state, I didn't get to see them finished in the dining room. I bet they looked stunning though.

BEFORE--Here were the drawings they sent me of what they wanted. Baseball stitch, ties, and waterfall skirt to change up the whole look.

 AFTER--I prewashed the velvet since they would be in dining room--that way they can be washed.

 Since the velvet was too thick to make ties--they decided to go for a deconstructed look. I serged two layers together face out--so the ties wouldn't be too bulky.

 No piping--just topstitch

I pieced the inside back to create the X back they wanted and opened up the seam and stitched on both sides.

SIDE NOTES--

I've been mulling over different goals for the year, and haven't really nailed any down specifically. My overall thoughts were just trying to figure out what my dream is. Everyone has a different dream, half the battle is figuring out what your's is. It's kind of my new saying-- you know when your house is trashed, and the kids are fighting..."Living the dream, baby...living the dream!" 

Lots of times, it's just making things happen and writing them down on your to do list.  What gets you excited? Is there something new you want to learn? What things do you want to make happen this year??  

My Ultimate dream--have 5 BYU housing condos that are paid for which create passive income ($42,000/yr after expenses), so I don't have to work as hard, and can take more trips. We bought our first BYU condo last February and are on a 3 year plan to pay it off. Once it's paid for it'll be an income stream. Then I'd just have to do that 4 more times. Which sounds a bit exhausting to me right now--so maybe 3 BYU condos?? I guess just take it one condo at a time. 

One bucket list thing I put on my to do list for this year is to hit up the longest yardsale on Hwy 127 from Alabama to Michigan. Aug 4-7! 

Grey Linen Wingbacks

My clients Inspiration pic for her chairs. She wanted an upholstered look as much as possible.

 BEFORE---a great set of unique squared wing backs.

 AFTER--grey linen with 3.5" white self lined linen band with a waterfall skirt.

 My client is moving next month into a new house, so we just shoved these in her current front room to get a few pics. Can't wait to see them in her new house!

On the Waterfall skirt, I decided to just have the front/back fold back and the sides act as the underlay.

 I topstitched the band to add some extra detail and to help it lay nicer.

Side Notes---

2. Had a great girls weekend up at Wolf Creek, UT. Watched some of my girls come into the finish line for the Ogden Half. Then we hit up the local Salvation Army where I found this $5 bookshelf! Found a spot at the end of my hall for it. I LOVE IT!!! Then we paddle boarded, hot tubbed, and watched movies.

3. Camille and I are working on our next room Makeover! Turning this boys room into a baby girl nursery with hot pink and grey on a $200 budget. Hoping to install in the next few days!

And yes we've been making some progress on our "Styling Cents"--reuse, repurpose, and revive your space decorating guide. We have a few more pics to get, then we send it off to our layout designer to make it look pretty!

Gray/Yellow Bedroom Chair and Ottoman

My client had this great comfortable chair and a mismatched  cheetah ottoman. She wanted to redo them so they'd match her newly decorated bedroom---which is BEAUTIFUL!

 Chair--AFTER- She told me to do it however I thought was best. With the large print, I didn't want to break up the pattern, so I decided to do a waterfall skirt.

I loved all her bed pillows--eclectic and no two are the same.

Of course there was matching involved.

 I love how bright and airy the room looks.

 She also had 2 scrolled back parson chairs for her desk area.  I chose to keep it tight around the front and a waterfall skirt in the back to keep the pattern from being broke up. Plus we were limited on fabric. 3 1/2 yds per chair with that large repeat.

I had to do seams down the front corners, because the fabric wasn't wide enough to make it all the way around. Blind hem around the bottom.

SIDE NOTE #1- Brooke's front room is coming along, we purchased all our main pieces off www.ksl.com, used of course-- we moved everything in, so I could get the scale and vision what else we need. We also ordered curtain and pillow fabric. I am super excited, but now we have to wait a week for the fabric to arrive.

 The green wall will be painted white to match the other walls, and we are hoping to do a large mirror over the couch.

SIDE NOTE #2-- It feels like spring here in Utah! I know everyone else is taking the brunt of the winter for us. We are enjoying 50-60 degree days in FEBRUARY!!! Normally we are in the 30's.

 My boys have been busy making ramps and skateboarding out front with all the neighbor boys.

Topstitched Couch

First off-- I am happy to tell you I have been working hard on my "Get it Covered" Advanced Slipcovering guide. I have all the pics submitted and I have started to edit! I am hoping to have it ready in the next few weeks! Now on to my post...

My client was moving into a new place and wanted a new slipcover for her couch. She got a beautiful neutral cotton with tiny specs in it. She decided to mix it up and not do piping. She wanted a waterfall skirt and topstitching.

Couch--AFTER--neutral with topstitching and waterfall skirt. I did a 1" blind hem on this skirt.

 I love the way it turned out.

SIDE NOTE---

We decided to spend Christmas at the cabin this year. We spent 3 nights there and I think the kids got a years worth of tubing in. When we first arrived there was 18" of powder on our steep driveway that we trudged up with all our bags, food, and gifts. By the time we left the driveway was a slick sheet of ice from all the tubes and sleds.

As soon as we arrived the kids wrapped lights on the stairway and hung the stalkings. Our little tree stand is a cinderblock with a towel wrapped around the tree (stick).

We survived 3 nights! I wasn't sure how it was going to go. 3 nights is the longest we've stayed there at one time. 800 sq ft, no computer, no tv, no friends= a lot of family time! We played lots of card games, went on walks, sledded, and watched some movies. PERFECT.

My sister offered to do our family pics again this year! How could I say no? This is my favorite family pic ever! Everyone is truly happy! No one was fighting or crying….This was taken just off the running path that I run a few times a week. I can't believe how tall our boys have gotten! I think this will be the last year they are all shorter than me.
