 My client picked up this wood armed chair off a local Facebook Yardsale page. She wanted to redo it in a brushed white denim with ties and box pleat skirt.

Chair--AFTER! Her room was BEAUTIFUL!! It fit right in! We decided to ditch the saggy back cushion and replace it with a 24" down pillow with 1" ruffle.

  I did 1.5" blind hem on the skirt to eliminate bulk. The fabric was a decent weight and with the pleating--self lined wouldn't have worked.

Side note #1--- Many of you know of my bestie, running partner, other half-- Camille about 4 years ago I slipcovered her sectional in a turquoise canvas. She loved it, but it has faded being next to the window and she decided to switch it up! She tested the arm pads 1st with some Navy Rit Dye to see how it would work out. AMAZING!!! She dyed the whole slipcover Navy blue with Rit Dye. Here's her instagram post! It is seriously AMAZING in person. Best idea ever! Now it'll hold up at least a few more years, and every time she washes it she can add some more dye to keep it from looking faded and worn.     

Side Note #2-- Last month I turned 40! I decided to plan my own party! Eight of us girls flew to LAX and rented a beach house in Newport beach for 3 nights. BEST TIME EVER! Hot tub, beach, bikes, ferris wheel, treats, naps, and sleeping in!

Side note #3--the week after my bday in LA, my family and I drove to Seattle for my nephews wedding. It was an amazing wedding with the best Dance Party EVER! My boys didn't know what to think watching their mom and dad dance like it was 1999!

 

Chairs, Ottomans, and Dining Chairs

My client picked up these two chairs and ottomans for $25/pair. They were from a Marriott Hotel that was replacing their furniture. WHAT A DEAL!!! She chose a white duck cloth to freshen them up.

I loved her antique round table and chandelier! I love rustic wood pieces. The white contrasted nicely!



We also did 2 arm chairs and 4 side dining chairs. These required some thought… she sent me an inspiration pic, so I knew it was possible, I just had to figure out how to get a skirt on the back with the wood piece down the center of the chair.

INSPIRATION PIC--

AFTER--SIDE CHAIR--my solution was to run the piping on the outside of the posts, attach skirt to piping. Then use velcro to attach the sections to either side of the vertical wood piece.

AFTER--Arm chair--same idea--velcro around the outside edge, but I had to do velcro along the sides as well between the back post and where the arm attaches to the seat. This way once the velcro is detached, the whole cover lifts up and over the wood back.


SIDE NOTE-- Brainstorming some new ideas. I am located in Utah.

1) 2 day workshop--- day1- slipcover main body of a chair
                                  day2- skirt, cushion, and pillow. 4-6 students/session

2) Job shadowing- come to work with me at my studio for 3 days (slipcovering, appts out, photography, blog, quickbooks, etc) 2-3 students/ session. This would be geared towards someone that has already started or wants to start a slipcover business.

3) Skype mentoring--sign up for the day you have a similar item and follow along in real time.

Occasional Chair

First of all---I know I haven't posted in about 4 weeks (Summer hit me hard this year). Follow me on my slipcovershelley facebook page for more regular updates. You can also now follow me on Instagram (search slipcovershelley). 

My client had two of these chairs. She thought they were a great size to use as occasional chairs, and move from room to room as needed.

 I did 4"box pleat skirt all the way around the base. Since there was not a separate seat cushion, I did a band around the front with piping and tuck in around the seat.

 I also piped down the inside arm.

 On the skirt, I did a 1" blind hem and then pleated. The fabric (white denim) was too heavy to self line and pleat nicely.

SIDE NOTES!!!

#1---This is now my life...SUMMER DAYS with the boy crew from the neighborhood. Trying to keep up with them is crazy! Sleepovers, campfires, drives to the dollar store, making food, lizard catching, scout camps, etc. I am just going with it, and if I don't blog for a few weeks it's fine.

#2--Last weekend I took Carter with me to Seattle to my Nephew's Mission Farewell. He is heading to Ghana for two years to serve a mission for the LDS church.

Carter loves him so much! He cried his eyes out when it was time to say goodbye.

 The whole family went to Pikes Market, then we took a ferry Bainbridge Island.

 Carter was excited to hold a real octopus at Pikes Market and shop for t-shirts for his brothers that we left at home.

 Morning after I got back from Seattle, Logan headed off to Camp Alma for a week (scout camp).

#3---I am running the WASATCH BACK RAGNAR in 3 days! Camille, Teresa, and I ended up getting on a sponsored team for SCHEELS! We are so excited....free entry, free running shoes, free van rental, free gas...What more could a girl want?!

#4---I switched out my couches for these awesome blue nubby couches that I found on my local (Utah) Vintage Yardsale Facebook page. I LOVE THEM!!! It's actually a really long couch that comes apart, so I am using them as two loveseats. My youngest doesn't like that there isn't an arm on one side (he fell off while eating his cereal)---he shouldn't be eating cereal on my awesome couches, anyhow!!!
