Camille and I did another room makeover! This time it was a nursery. Our neighbor has 3 boys and was pregnant with her 4th and was finally getting a girl! She decided she wanted hot pink and grey.
BEFORE--boy toddler room
AFTER--hot pink and grey nursery! We wanted it to look sophisticated. Camille did a great job hanging the curtains. We were determined to do all the "man work" ourselves this time. Tip--get a really light weight mini drill, so much easier for the ladies!
Chair and footstool--BEFORE--faded light pink mauve velvet chair that we rescued from the thrift store for $5.
It was headed for the dumpster and we talked the sales guy into letting us buy it---well he told us we couldn't buy it AND we couldn't take it…and since I usually don't take "no" for an answer very well, I asked if I could talk to someone else. Next guy came out after we overheard the first guy say, "they won't leave!" He was happy to sell it to us for what we wanted to pay…$5.
We were laughing about this story and telling my husband about it, and he jokingly said--"that's why we're married…you won't take "no" for an answer". Let's just say he was more nervous than I was about getting married. haha!
After we got the chair home, we realized it looked pretty sad, faded, and tired. I started thinking, maybe we can dye it! I googled it and found someone that had done it. So we gave it a try!
AFTER!! Rit dye worked FABULOUS!! The footstool, I picked up at a free yardsale. I cut the pillow top thing off and slipcovered it in some of my leftover grey polka dot fabric.
3 cups hot water and 4 capfuls RIT dye, put in spray bottle and saturate the chair and let it dry in the sun. Wear gloves and do it outside!
The chair took the dye really well and once it was dry, it didn't transfer onto clothing.
We picked up the chandelier for $7 and Camille spray painted the brass silver and the candle stick sections white to freshen it up. I finally learned how to switch out light fixtures, since I hated waiting for Heber to do it for me. We were pretty proud of our electrical abilities!
Picked up changing station dresser for $40. We framed some scrapbooking paper in some $1 frames from the thrift store. Nicole still need to sew up the changing pad cover, so we just wrapped the fabric around it.

I made the bumpers of extra fabric I had kicking around.
We found a $2 hot pink table cloth at the thrift store. I turned it into a bedskirt and was able to keep some of the original hemming which made it a quick sew.
Original serged edges from Table cloth. There was only enough to do 3 sides--which I figured was fine, the one side is against the wall and you can't see it anyways.
Her youngest boy is still in his crib, so we found this crib on KSL.com (online classifieds) for $40. I use 2" foam to stuff my bumpers--it makes them stand up better than the batting filled ones. Foam usually runs $30 for a bumper set, but I lucked out and found a nice unused piece of foam at the thrift store for $2!
Nicoles budget was $200. Which was tight considering she had no furniture. The glider, changing station, and crib was staying in her youngest sons room.

Chaise--AFTER! Tall skirt and ties on the arms. She wanted a "rustic farmhouse" look. I also made her some tie closure pillows to go along with it. 
Finishes off the room for sure and will most likely be the new favorite seat in the house!

Heber and I celebrated our 18yr anniversary!
We took our first family backpacking trip! One mile, one night in the Unitas (Lake Ruth).
My oldest son is running cross country and had practices EVERY day of the summer---which meant lots of carpooling! At last weeks meet, he took 31st place out of 256 varsity boys! So worth all the carpooling to see him push himself and run hard. He average 5:30/mile for 2.9miles! So proud of him!
I helped plan our family reunion! We had it on the Oregon Coast this year, which was AMAZING! These are all my siblings! 6 kids and 21 grandkids, it was quite the party! Talent shows, dance parties, fishing, hot tubbing, hiking, paddle boarding, etc! My sister surprised us at the talent show with these bobble heads from an old family picture--her whole family had them on and danced to YMCA--It was the funniest thing I've ever seen!
Pink loveseat--BEFORE---I removed the skirt to expose the darling legs.
Loveseat--AFTER---blue pinstripe with a 2.5" pleat ruffle along the base
Since the loveseat was a kidney shape with curves along the front, I installed some velcro to help the slipcover hug to those inside curves.
I made a few pillows to go with it as well.
Her daughters room is darling with a built in bunkbed and loft--lucky girl! Love that chandelier as well!
